Take a left instead...

This morning I wanted to try a new route, so I started at the Indian Hills trail head and rode on the dirt until I could hop onto Squaw Peak Road and then rather than staying right to go to the lookout, I went left and continued on the dirt until I had to turn around, a couple of miles past the Rock Canyon Campground where the road started to get messy from the melting snow.

Here are some pictures.  I can't think of many better ways to spend an early June morning.  Our mountains here along the Wasatch are simply incredible.

This weekend I rode up Rock Canyon and then counter-clockwise around Squaw Peak. During my ride up Rock, I thought that most of it would actually make a pretty good down, so that could have been an option for you rather than turning around. The first mile below Rock Canyon Campground is especially good.

Did you take the singletrack that starts near your first photo (I think) and empties into the Squaw Peak overlook parking lot? There are some good trails up there if you know where to look.

Aaron - That's good to know as I was wondering whether there was a rideable trail that connected into Rock Canyon so that I could do a loop. I'll have to try that out for sure.

I stayed on the dirt road the whole time, but kept noticing the trails taking off from the road. Sounds like I need you to show me around.

I forgot how cool it is up there until today when I read your post. I grew up in Provo so that area was one of my main rides. Aaron is right about coming down Rock Canyon. Totally fun. You reminded me today of how amazing it is behind that mountain. I think there is a trip to Provo in my near future...
